Are you sure you want to 'properly dispose' of 4+ quarts of refined petro chemicals? This is a huge responsibility that the average person may find overwhelming. You could always post over at the Al Gore support center.

Re: Rear BMW top case
The RT top case looks right. The RT case mount bracket borrowed and adapted to the stock rear rack of the R1150R looks sturdy. I do wonder if the angle of the case could be changed. It looks as though it it tilted towards the front of the bike. Maybe it's the photos - Could you post a profile photo ...

Re: Engine stops - eventually starts
The problem, I think, was a clogged fuel system - fuel tank had a lot of debris - that at first looked like sand. It was black. I believe this debris came from the small 'u' shaped hose that connects the fuel filter to the fuel pump. The hose was cracked and degraded. I filtered the gas as I poured ...

Engine stops - eventually starts
The rock will sometimes just stop running. It happens when i ride the rockster off it's centerstand. The motor stops and won't restart easily - sometimes cranking for 15 seconds before gradually starting.
Anyone have this problem?

Re: Clutchless up shifts
I've not tried it downshifting - but upshifting can result in poo as smooth as an automatic transmission. RPMS, road speed, throttle off/throttle on, and timing of the upshift have an ideal range. I know when I've got it right. When It get it wrong two things happen: 1. I can't shift up (if I try an...

Re: 1150 Rockster or new R1200R
I spent a day riding escort on an R1200R during a dealers demo day. My daily rider at the moment is an '04 Rockster. My comparison view follows. listed below are the advantage I see to both models. R1200R Smoother Shifting (still clunks a bit) Lighter ABS brakes don't 'whine' - not a linked, power a...

What paint on the Rockster Tank?
I've got two small chips near the filler cap on my '04 Rock. What brand and name of paint (...and filling material?) would the folks on the list recommend be used to 'fill in' the chips?

Re: Rear Tire Removal Help
Anybody post pictures or links on their 'no pipe' option(s)? I'd like to see what they look like. I run full size 'bags' with city lids. anybody figure a way to add that 'third point' that the muffler bracket provides for luggage mounting?

Re: New Calsci windshield for R1200R
I too appreciate an incremental 'debug' of a piece of hardware. Helmets and turbulence. Have you tried Nolan, Arai, Shoei, etc? I've noticed a substantial difference in 'bobble head' by wearing different helmets. The Nolan N102 was, for me, the quietest and smoothest. The Arai seemed to be most affe...

Re: The best 79 cents I ever spent
Interesting point about the artist. The person who drew the illustrations was most likely a contracted artist. They were paid a flat hourly fee. Corporations own most copyrights. Should a fee for a copyright item go up or down over time? Is that fee negotiable? After the cost of reproduction (nothin...

Re: My New F650GS
Get to know the www.f650.com website. It'll help. I rode a '97 F650 Funduro for 38,000 miles and really liked that motorcycle. They are simple, light (for a BMW), and keep their value pretty well. I've used the 'tall' Aeroflow screen and prefer that over the Cee Bailey. Parabellum also makes a good ...

Re: Help with F650
Go to www.f650.com - 'The Chain Gang' is a site devoted to the F650. You can measure the oil level after running the motor for less than a minute. The filter and the frame will fill with oil. You can remove the 'extra oil' with a turkey baster (or something that will suck up the oil from the filler ...

Re: Thinkin of a paint job
Rockster needs a repaint? I'd start with the valve covers and the cover around the headlights. No, not the 'eyebrow' but that funny looking piece of polymer that resembles the business end of an Electrolux vacuum cleaner - that thing that holds the two different sized headlights up. These are painte...

Re: New to me Rock - and a pix
Paint color for 'bronze': Dupli-color MS100 Metal Specks Burnt Copper After visiting a real paint store I found there is a two stage paint, called 'hot rod black' that looks like the black finish on the rockster. If I want an exact match on textures I'd have to say satin black is a bit too shiny. Fl...

How to paint the valve covers
The black is 'engine black' and is high temperature paint. Not that the valve covers need them, but the original coating is undoubtably a polymer based paint. The original primer is an epoxy primer - two stage. One can't buy two stage expoxy primer in a rattle can. Why expoxy? Magnesium wants to oxi...

New to me Rock - and a pix
It's my third oilhead and sixth BMW. I've bought 'em used. The rock is the best handling beemer I've had. I couldn't like the 'blue' valve covers on a black/bronze motorcycle - and those on mine were deeply scratched. So, I found a set of valve covers on craigslist and stripped the paint off the out...
