I had the foot-peg lowering kit on my R, so scraping pegs seemed a fairly frequent occurrence, even during my city commutes. I pretty much eliminated this by moving my lazy arse a bit and leaning a bit more than the bike during turns. Chicken strips and elephant heads be damned. If I cared about app...

I just use a pair of screwdrivers to gently pry the cap off until it's free.

BMW sells rivit kits for the hinge and multifunction box (or whatever they call it). Yes, they are overpriced (surprise!).

Chicago BMW has the hinge kit for $13.60 and the box for $31.20! You could buy alot of rivits and probably a rivit gun for that.

I picked up a pair of these on e-bay. Very comfortable. I don't miss my mesh gloves at all. They don't offer much in the way of insulation for cool mornings, and not waterproof. Still my favorite golve to wear. http://www.leeparksdesign.com/eshopprod_cat_530-3637_product_33203_keyword_gloves.DeerTou...

Re: Home servicing

Went to my not-so-local dealer the other day (160 mile round trip, but the weather was good and the roads twisty) to have a look at the new models. While I was there I asked at the parts desk for the gizmo that fits over the oil filter so that you can undo it and was told BMW won't allow them to se...

I have the Kathy liners as well. Very handy. The only thing I was surprised about is that there is no shoulder strap or attachment points for same.

There are some other brands out there, including Cee Bailey:

I believe you can buy a cradle that will fit the Quest directly from Ram, as well as some other sources. Touratech makes some as well.

As an interim step, I believe that you can do a jump by connecting the + cable to the + terminal on the starter (or so I think I have heard). You have to remove the plastic cover over the starter, but that is a heck of a lot easier than trying to access the battery.

Re: 3 questions on Battery life?

How long should a 2004 gel battery last? Is it common for the battery to go flat after 2 weeks not riding? Does very cold weather have any affect on batteries losing juice? My '04 battery has begun to hate cold weather. Had to jump start it yesterday AM (25F). I don't use a tender, but I ride every...

The BRAKE! uses a capacitor (or resistor) to fool the Motronic into thinking the load is correct. Since one of the Motronic functions is to monitor tail and brake lights for burn outs, I'd guess the temperature is causing the BRAKE! module to change its load and thus the Motronic notes it as a burn...

I like Oxtar Matrix, but my only complaint is that the fine traction features of the sole seemed to wear pretty quickly. I bought a pair of Vendraminni Marathons, and I like them even better. Seem to have more protection that the Oxtars, very comfy and so-far, waterproof. Soles seem to wear about th...
