changing to full size left case

Post by seisouso »

Can anyone help me out with some instruction on how to change my left system case to a full size case? I've removed the can, purchased a full size left inner case, and am in the process of trying to change over the old locking mechanism to the new case. I've drilled out the rivets on the inside of the case, but I don't know how to get the locking hooks off. Do I have to drill them off? Also, what size rivets do I have to get? Thanks for any help!

You just need to tap out the little pins that hold those pads on the hooks..Would you like me to post a few pictures showing what I mean.

Re the rivet size..just get some about 1/2" should be ok...but I could not get rivets long enough for the lid..I used short hex head bolts and nylock nuts.

thanks, I used a nail and a hammer to tap it out, just like you said. Good thing I didn't try to drill it out! I'm going to try to find some long rivets to use, otherwise I'll just use a nut and screw like you said.

rivets

I did use rivets but don't remember what size they were, it was three or four years ago. I know they were not metric, though. You should be able to buy a kit with a number of different sizes to test.

BMW sells rivit kits for the hinge and multifunction box (or whatever they call it). Yes, they are overpriced (surprise!).

Chicago BMW has the hinge kit for $13.60 and the box for $31.20! You could buy alot of rivits and probably a rivit gun for that.
