Symptom: '04 rockster, 24K on the clock has started (just this morning) to be "sluggish" in the engine performance department. it's most noticable in rolling on from any revs and when engine braking - I would say the engine braking has become more noticable by roughly 20%.
History: I do roughly 115 mile a day during the week, with some riding at weekends as well, so the bike can easily do over 2,000 miles in a month.
Bike used to wear a Remus Y-piece and Ti Can, which I removed roughly 10 days ago for several reasons: The UK MOT test is due this month, the can was getting rather loud, and the welds on the Y-piece were mostly gone.
Bike has always been dealer serviced until the 24K which I performed last weekend (All filters, All oils, All plugs, Valves, TB balance). I'm pretty sure I did everything ok, valves were mostly ok, I did adjust one (upper RHS inlet) but only because I wanted to re-familiarise myself with the process. I'm not totally sure that I balanced the TBs very well though - I seemed to need to move the BBAS on the LHS out (unscrew) a LOT before it would balance with the RHS which wasn't very far out. I also didn't take the bike for a 5 min ride beforehand so although it got hot as I was tinkering, it wasn't at "riding temperature" when I started.
I built myself a manometer using 3-in-1 oil and (possibly erroneously) put a pair of taps in the hoses, I'm thinking that these taps may have led to incorrect readings as they restrict the air-flow through the hose.
Question: Could the "sluggish" performace be due to the TBs being quite badly balanced?? given that I've done something like 250 miles since I did the procedure, surely I'd have noticed it beforehand??
Question: What else could cause this? bad fuel? restricted air flow? (bird in the tube??), Coil failure?
Question: Had anyone else had the bike suddenly go sluggish for no apparant reason? What was the cause?
If enough right fist is used the bike will still get up to high speeds, but it's a touch slower, and far more right fist than usual is needed. (Not sure if it's relevant but I chased my brothers VTEC VFR out of London last night and the Rockster was running fine then).
