Don't mean to make light of your problems, but....

I don't get here too often, but I'll bite...
2004 R1150, 65,000miles
FD r&r at ~35k, and the dreaded spline failure at 50k.
Otherwise.....not a thing, except all the tires & gas she uses.
Actually there were two upgrades introduced by BMW for the cam chain tensioner, but the second one was not much of an improvement, thus the third. Unfortunately I don't know the bolt size of the second "upgrade", but seems it was right about the time your bike was made. Might be worthwhil...
Sure wish I could find the finishing washers for that screen. One of them came off my bike and I can't find replacements anywhere. Anybody know who sells them? I tried the BMW dealer in Raleigh and they couldn't help. Lowe's sells finishing washers, or used to. In the hardware section (nutx & b...
Not sure about the cost of a new tranny, but when mine granaded @ 50k miles, dealer said the same thing. I think all their labor would have made for many $$$, so I did the clutch side myself. Tom Cutter @ RCRG did the rebuild on the tranny. Just about $1100 with shipping for the tranny (new seals, b...
Have done all 3 (once) in 58,000miles. 8-[ Adds up to $2700 in parts & labor, & I did the clutch tear-down/install myself. I'm fine with this, ONCE only tho.... I love the Roadsta, but if the clutch splines & input shaft go again, I'm going to part it out. On the side of the road... Whil...
I think if you install them correctly they are fine. I installed mine ~24000mi ago at 32900mi. My rear wheel is solid as a rock since. I've had them out @38000mi when I had the FD r&r and then again @50000mi when my clutch splines bit the dust....so I've got other problems. #-o The bushings were...
Goto Advance Auto, Tractor Supply, Ace Hardware, HomeDepot etc and buy one of these if you can find.... http://www.alliedtools.com/products/13252
Works great on both plugs on my '04....
Ive just checked out the hex size on the L/H CCT. Its 17mm, does this mean its the old design? I recall reading somewhere that the upgraded CCT has a 15mm hex. Also has anyone managed to remove a CCT without removing the TB? It looks like you could get a socket behind the suspension arm using a 3/8...
Can't remember where, but I bought a kit as Airman linked above, plus some extra inserts. Was about $65 total. I used a manual tap, not a drill, with just the covers removed. Worked carefully & took my time.... Works beautifully.... =D> Had to do the same with an M8 bolt on the starter... 8-[ Th...
... 3 years later (and about 5 services after...), I can confirm it. The cam cover gasket is leaking visibly after a bit of a hammer up the M4 (long story). So - who's had experience of re-drilling and re-tapping or using an insert of some sort on the cam-cover retaining bolt lug threads?? Anybody ...
Mine just went ~6weeks ago at just a a hair under 50k miles. Splines on both sides looked exactly like your pics. I replaced everything from the flywheel on back on the clutch side, including a new slave cylinder....$1000 in parts. Tranny sent to Dr Cutter @ RCRG for rebuild. All new bearings, seals...
Changing the rear fluid should I take the boot off and also lube the splines with some moly? How often should they be inspected/lubed You can't access the FD splines (both sets) by merely pulling back the boot. The FD must be removed. I've never just went in to 'inspect' them, but when I changed th...
I had the FD big bearing replaced @39,300miles to fix gear oil leaking into the rear hub. I caught this impending 'major failure' during a tire change. No big deal...That was 10,100miles ago. 3 weeks ago at a hair under 49,400miles my Roadsta ate it's clutch splines. http://www.r1150r.org/board/view...
Clutch splines gone at 50k = durability issue. If your bike doesn't eat splines, then yes the BMW clutch is just fine. ..... I think it would be worthwhile to find a better clutch plate. The springs would help, but having a longer hub would improve things dramatically IMO. Thanx Andy....This is wha...
Well...at 49400miles my 04 Roadster ate it's clutch splines. Tranny input shaft as well, naturally. I would post pix but why waste the bandwidth...you've seen one POS clutch hub & tranny shaft, & you've seen them all.... FWIW, in the face of the tranny case -to- engine mis-alignment ...
I just did this last week as a result of my clutch splines failing on the road. Hopefully you'll find some good splines there. Tranny is out for re-build and I'll have do a complete clutch job. Oh, well....that's another story  Don't know what your Clymer's says, but my Hayne's want's you to c...
The OM says ..'ODYSSEY batteries are shipped fully charged from the factory, but prior to installation, check the battery's voltage to see if it is 12.65 volts or greater. If not, recharge using the procedure below.......'
