r1150R - Too many problems ...

Post by fxr92 »

Hello there,
New to the forum, I want to make you a feedback on my R1150R ...
Owner of a R1150R (60,000 km) since 2010 and BMWiste for 25 years, this R1150R strongly encouraged me to go back to ASIA!
I was tempted to switch to the new model of the R1200R and no longer think to take this way.
A brief description of my problems on the R1150R:
- Battery: Damned these gel batteries that take 3-4 years! Where are the good old batteries that held 10 years
- Electricity: 5 times (almost every year), the electron beams are so tight that the cables break one after the other around the steering column! I can not tell you as it is a struggle to find out what cable was cut and where!
- Cale-foot rear: Rust every 2 years (Paris and motorcycle sleeping every night in a parking garage ..) .. it rust quickly!
- Coupler gas drive: 25,000 km small geyser of gasoline at a red light, happily next to a BMW dealer. Luckily the bike did not fire; full of fuel on the right flat. 2 plastic couplers changed by metal
- Starter: HS 32000KM! I am not a pizza drive;I take my BM every morning to go to work. Customer service response .. "we do not know how you use your bike, so no refund." Begins to be heavy all here
- Front Calipers out at 60000km. Motorcycle to dealer for motor adjustement and change brakes .. cold shower. Hello Mr. R., your Calipers are dead (rusty), need to change both front. Reminder: the bike everyday layer covered!
Anyway, I've had 2 Honda and K100RS I led to 300,000 KM and I was super happy.
But then there the 1150R seriously annoys me with BM. Calipers out, I think I would not even have such a mess on the Made in Asia!
Well, BMW rider for 25 years, I think I become too old and still believe that BMW is an indestructible brand.
So the R1200RT, it will be without me. Too bad , it looks too top!
Hoping that yours runs better than mine!

Don't mean to make light of your problems, but....
LOL....
I don't get here too often, but I'll bite...

FD r&r at ~35k, and the dreaded spline failure at 50k.
Otherwise.....not a thing, except all the tires & gas she uses.

Thanx for sharing....

LOL

id better go check my "electron beams!" (lighthearted poke at your english)

the problems you complain about...not sure they're as severe as you think. Fuel line sort of a pain, but not expensive, starters are easy. unless you have to pay a dealer to do your work then $.

now the spline failure mentioned above. I cringe whenever I hear a weird noise when shifting... I only have 20k on mine now.

The rust issue... odd. I'M not experiencing ANY rust whatsoever, and I live in rust central, and ride in the cold and wet. salt and wet sand everywhere. In fact, Ive never read about that EVER on this model.

Any chance you might have got a flood salvaged bike? just thinking out loud.

Wire faults around the headstock seem to be a problem for all the 11xx boxer bikes.
Best cut all the original cable ties in that area to let them hang loose!
