Bill, I don't think you will find it's the switch - it's probably a problem with the wire ties. The ties are actually to tight and force the wires to bend when the bars are turned. As mentioned they(you) remove a bunch of ties. I'm will solder the wire and check all the rest of the wires in this she...

Broken Wire Bulletin
Just a note: If your starter button doesn't always work or any of the controls on the right hand side have problems at times: BMW has a buttetin out about shorting of wires due to krimping. It's a bulletin - not a recall - so they aren't going to pay for it. My starter switch began to work off and o...

Sidestand Kill Switch
Group, My sidestand kill switch seems to have died. Bike will start fine if it is up on the center stand (side stand up or down). Put the bike on it's wheels and it is like you have the key in the off position, side stand up or down. Just incase you ever have this problem. You can disconnect the wir...

Side Stand Cut-off Switch
Group,
Talk about an irritation. Every time I use my side stand I have to mess around with the wires (with my hand) to get the bike to start.
Has anyone had this problem?...... what did you do to fix it?
Thanks in advance.

New Brakes, Again!
Just put new rear brakes on the R, again, and I just turned 52,000 miles. Not complaining at all, actually thought it was pretty good. May have taken me a whole 1/2 hour, but then I'm a little slow. How many miles are folks getting out of front brakes? - I haven't changed mine yet. Now if I could ju...

Big 5- OH
Group, Well my beautiful black 02, R1150R turned over 50,000 miles today. What wonderful miles these have been. It is the first time I have ridden (one bike)over 50k. This bike has been the best bike I have owned in my life. I have promised her plugs, valve adjustment, sync, alt belt, air cleaner, a...

Frequency?
No one has mentioned this, maybe it's assumed, but I really think the frequency of oil change is more important than the filter. I change oil every 3,000 and have for 49,000 miles - sometimes less if it's conveniet for me. I use a PF53 just because they are much easier to get. Someone mentioned burn...

Miles/Problems
02 R, 49,000 miles
Rear drive seal, rear brakes, throttle bodies, front tire every 12,000 miles, rear every 6,000.
No plans to sell it, would buy the same thing anyway.

Stock Seat
I'm with the group that doesn't mind the stock seat. Have ridden over 700 miles in a day without any problems. 500 plus several times, I've got 47,000 on my 02 R. From the comments the seat must work better for small, light folks - I''m 5'9", 160#. I do have barbacks, have more problems with sh...

Older Picture
The attached picture shows a different angle. I have had this screen on the bike for about 2 years. Live in NC and have ridden to FL and OH with it on(well plus an additional 40,000 + miles). I think it works well and I like the looks. Alan http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0XAAjYzYaz7BktCCtU9rxt6MGhIl3...

OK - So I'm an IDIOT
So I stop at the Y on my way to work and am leaning on my bike talking to a Vintage Car Buddy. He says, they sure have strange "wear bars" on motorcycle tires - I look. I had ordered tires as I was down to the real wear bars but they sure went from there to point B in a hurry. I rode home ...

Short Story
A group of us were in the South Western VA mountains this past Sunday scraping a peg or two. After a particularly good stretch (Up to Tuggles Gap), we stopped to let some of the group catch up. Two white haired ladies in a van pulled onto the gravel by us and rolled down the window. I figured I was ...

VA Drivers
Have to comment on the VA drivers. I live in NC but ride a lot in the South Western VA mountains. When a group of us get up in mountains riding the twisties it is not at all uncommon for drivers to pull over and let us pass, or wave us around over a double yellow line. NC and VA drivers are polite t...

Yea, me too
1st ever motorcycle ride (Cushman Eagle) actually ran into the side of a barn - didn't have that turn thingey down. In my early 20ies: Rode up some steps, across the porch and tried to ride into the house. Handle bars were to wide for the door - I made it into the house, the bike didn't. Yes alcohol...
