New Brakes, Again!

Post by Alannc »

Just put new rear brakes on the R, again, and I just turned 52,000 miles.

Not complaining at all, actually thought it was pretty good. May have taken me a whole 1/2 hour, but then I'm a little slow.

How many miles are folks getting out of front brakes? - I haven't changed mine yet.

Now if I could just get the rear tire to last that long.

I just changed mine at 50,000 klms...fronts had 1/4 left..rear had 1/2 left.

Could it be that you rest your foot on the brake..or maybe you just use it more than most.

These bikes are notorious for hanging rear brakes. The pins bind and you get the same effect a riding the brake. Make sure the pins are free and lightly lubricated.

I have 42000 miles on mine (which has ABS) and still have the original brakes. They're getting low and will need a replacement soon. I make sure I keep my right foot away from the brake lever and since my brakes are partially linked, I rarely use the rear (since it's 'automatic'.)

On my 2004 with ABS I replaced the fronts at 35,500 and they could have gone longer.

I had my rear brakes replaced for the first time at about 13500 miles... Most of my riding's in the city and I do use the rear quite a bit. Still seems early for them to go, but I did have a problem keeping my bike stationary at a red light on a steep hill using the rear brake only, so I think they had gone...
