Kristi;
You might not have known, but this is a great faux pas. Its like me asking your weight or age and just one of those mysteries we of the loyal order of the tank bag don't like to divulge.
However, I don't like to stand on ceremony and (because I'm really bored at work) thought I'd give you a glimpse into my Terrible world.... In my tank bag I've got:
Frogg Toggs rain suit
SPare eye and sunglasses
GPS
Cell Phone
8 AA batteries
Sunscreen
lip balm
First Aid kit with snakebite pump
4 maps in the "map window": Kentucky, Ohio, a GPS map from a Pennsylvania trip and cleveland, OH
A compass
Swiss army knife
Leatherman Tool
Various pluggy things for my outlets, including a jumper adapter
ear plugs
A credit card wrapped with duct tape (don't ask)
Manual with insurance info
Change purse
Mini Mag-lite
small vice grips
Camelback Hydration tube
Spare key (hidden in a clever location)
2 delicious berry powerbars
a small towel and little hotel toiletries kit (including a razor
enough room for a change of clothes

I'm sorry. I certainly didn't mean to be tactless or embarrass anybody. I was just curious and was trying to learn about the types of functional things that should be carried on a bike for preparedness. It was never my intent to pry into private lives.
However, if we are making a comparison between divulging tank bag contents and a woman divulging her age or weight; well, then I can only surmise that you lied.
About that credit card with duct tape........

Making a List?
You are keeping a running list, right? Categorizing and sorting and conducting multiple pairwise comparisons? Right?
I would be interested, after all 4000 members have had time to reply, in knowing if the Europeans, the Brits (special Europeans), the Norte Americanos, the Asianeers, and the Aussies (can't spell Australians) differ in what we pack, carry and promote.
I'd also like to know the most popular item sorted by color of bike and age of rider. Geezers versus whippersnappers will do for age.
So you will get those stats collected and analyzed for us. Right?
Say, next week? Okay?

your honesty is to be commended
your discretion is to be questioned
your company is to be welcomed
always carry:

cell phone
gps
sunglasses
ear plugs
provided bmw tool kit and tire repair kit
day trips would include:
rain gear
tire guage
gatorade
snacks
camera
towel (see hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy)

I was dreaming when I wrote this, forgive me if it goes astray...

Geoff; Not only can I fit all this stuff in a standard expandable BMW tank bag but I keep it within the weight limit recommended by Beemer! It all goes around 9 or 10 pounds. Me thinks I spent too much time packing things into rucksacks...
Besides, I don't want any tank bag envy issues starting to happen.
I am a little out of control. On group rides we actually play a game called "guess what's in my tank bag?"
I wish I knew how to post pictures.
