Oh - be careful. Folks around here don't appreciate talk like this - to most of these guys the Bike is perfect as is.

I tend to agree with you. Mine will be under going some severe surgery soon.

I bought the BMW roundel for that area. I agree before I got it it was a little bare looking.

I vaguely remember someone here taking a hacksaw to it.

Scroll down this page and find "Cyclerob chopped his rear fender"
I'm going to do this as soon as I have the time.

Heaps of guys here have done the curcumsision..the chop job... :D

There's a good post with pics that shows up every now and then...I'm not sure who.

It shows cutting the two sides first...and then at the bottom of the license plate.

A hack saw...works fine.

I did it with a hack saw after I drew a line with a pencil. It was easy. Remove the mud flap extender first if it is still there.

I used a dremel. Be aware, once done, every puddle makes a mess.

It's not a tough job at all. I followed the instructions from one of the posts on here, and did it with a dremel tool. The key is practicing your cut down lower on the fender so that you have a good feel for it before the final cut. I then used a wire-brush attachment for the dremel to smooth out the rough spots.

I had toyed with the idea of doing it until my German Sherpherd decided to give me a head start. I discover little red sparkles from one of the reflectors and realized that he had given up his bone for my BMW's rear fender. He was always drawn to red reflectors...go figure. Chewed 'em off my bicycle too

I used a jig saw for the cut, then a dremel tool to smooth it up. As stated, remove the flap extender and make a practice cut first. I cut it off about where the bottom of the license plate frame is.

It looks better for sure and makes getting the rear tire off much easier. But anyone following you gets sprayed! Or so I heard from MikeCam! :P

i just hack-sawed the sucker right below my license plate. Then I used some heavy cutters to round it off at the corners. Then used a file to pretty it up.

The only problem is that now when it rains you can't slow down below 60 mph.

Don't cut that mud gaurd! I just removed mine and put it away for a rainy day. Now I just have the license plate below the tail lint. :D

If you don't want the extension, send it to me! I lost mine when it fell off somewhere in Oklahoma while on a trip. I wouldn't mind having another, I think it would help in rain riding.
