You'll love it! I promise.

Two interesting things about it I have learned about the new screen since last posting about it...

One - If you are cruising at triple-digit speeds for miles on end (like Dean and I did on the last stretch of the Big Bend ride) and you have a tank bag... You can rest your head on the tank bag to give your neck a break and look right through the screen, which little if any distortion, and you will have a calm, quiet cocoon to bop along at 120+ MPH in...

Two - This Big Bend trip was really the first chance I had gotten to run the R-1150-R all the way out on the big-end with the new screen but *NO* bags... I'll be damned if all tucked in, under the paint, behind the new screen, I actually picked up about 2-3 MPH on the top end over the flyscreen!

That's right... My Beak actually went faster with the larger, new screen on it than it ever has either "naked" or with the flyscreen... and I was at a much higher altitude than where I normally ride. I can't wait to get the calibrated speedo or GPS on it down here, on a loooooooong stretch of road, and find out how much I have really gained.

With the flyscreen, and no bags, here in South Texas, the most my bike had ever indicated on the stock speedo was right at 130 MPH, which worked out on the calibrated speedo to about 123-124 MPH. I saw a stock speedo indicated 133-134 MPH or so out in Big Bend... So I guess the new screen cleans up the airflow some on the R-1150-R and puts the air around my rather large carcass better...

Cheers!

Say Dallara, don't suppose you've still got the Bikescreens NZ screen kicking about? If so would you consider selling it?
Cheers, Simon.

Yep, Simon...

Yep, Simon...

I still got it. Originally another board member said he was going to buy it (he had PM'ed me asking about buying it months ago...), and we agreed on a price, shipping, etc... but then he just faded away... I haven't heard from him in a long time, so I guess he no longer wants it.

It is perfect shape, with its only modification being a genuine BMW 45mm metal "roundel" stuck on the lower center front, just above the headlamp.

However, I imagine shipping to England might get pretty pricey once it is packed adequately to make sure it got there unscathed.

But if you want it, I'll part with it. Note that it mounts to the BMW flyscreen brackets, and since I want to keep my flyscreen I will not be selling the brackets.

Just PM me with your e-mail addy and we can handle the rest via e-mail if you are interested.

Cheers!

Dallara,
I've got the screen sitting in my garage at the moment. I suppose it will get mounted sometime this winter and deal with the pain then. Better the screen than being beaten about by the wind on long rides.

Triple digit speeds, eh? I guess that radar detector of yours doesn't give false positives, does it?

Just Placed My Order

Post by waltrider »

Once again, this site proves to be invaluable. I've been trying to find a quiet shield, and have been using both the Flyscreen and the NZ Bikescreen. I love the NZ screen, but I recently discovered how loud it really is versus no screen at all.

Based upon all the comments and feedback, I placed an order for the High Windscreen from Chicago BMW. I'm hoping it's everything that you say it is (and more). I love my R, I just want it to be quieter at freeway speeds.

After looking at the pictures, I believe the 3/4 inch gap between the screen and the headlight has something to do with quieting the airflow. While most of the noise on the R's come off the oil coolers, I'm hoping this screen with be the perfect blend. :smt026

The install would have been much easier on mine (I think) if I'd had a Drive long ball hex bit socket...luckily I had a T-handle with the ball end...I'm refering here to the bolts that hold the headlight bracket to the triple clamps (the ones next to the fork legs).

Be patient on the intall.

I've riden about 200 miles with the new windsreen in what seemed liked some more windy conditions than normal...verdict?...I need another 500 or so miles to make up my mind.
