Tach Bulb???

Post by denverchuck »

I think I’ve seen it in here somewhere but after diligent searching nothing…

How do I access, what is the correct size and can I find the correct bulb at the local auto-parts store?

much love

Much love to you too.

Can you swear like a sailor.....it's a beach to get to and MO you will not find it at the auto parts store.

All kidding aside, you have to remove the cover. from the rear, there is one screw on each of the covers. The bulb is then accessible, it is a one off and quite expensive, or so I remember. I guess you will have to go and pay your dues at the BMW tax collection agency.

Mr. mania,

More details please....

I pulled the round cap off the back of the assembly last night and went no further, does the assembly just then pull out from the front or do I need to remove all the caps and screws to remove the back chrome housing from the entire instrument cluster?

Not that it makes a difference, it is actually err the speedo bulb.

And yes I swear, more like a drunken sailor though.

boxer – thanks a bunch!

Chicago BM tax collector didn’t know the exact bulb, so two bulbs $5.50 plus other necessary goodies, not too bad for a 30 cent bulb :roll:

let the cussing begin……

gagator,
Remove the two headlight bolts and let it rest on the beak, remove the three ‘disk’ covers and four screws from the back of the instrument cluster, remove the speedo cable and wala, the cover comes off. One bulb was clearly blown, replaced it, still no light, replaced the other and we’ve got light. So get both bulbs and replace ‘em. Tried removing cover w/o taking off headlight, no go. No special tools or instructions just pull the bulb straight out the back of the cluster.
