Re: Appropriate Cylinder head protection, FINALLY !
I just ordered a set of SW-MOTECH engine guards from twistedthrottle.com. The PDF instructions aren't terribly intuitive, so I might post installation pics here.

Re: the pros and cons of the BMW sport windshield
I'll look into the Cee Bailey's when CA rain comes.
p.s. I did post in the R1100R forum. Whoops! Doug moved it here.

the pros and cons of the BMW sport windshield
I just installed the BMW sport windshield on my R1200R this morning. PROS: - Wind blast I felt at 60MPH is now up at 80MPH - much less wind noise - no buffeting CONS: - Really damn expensive (got it brand new as a dealer demo take-off at 50%) - steering at highway speed is slowed by the windshield p...

Re: Observations on new tires
My Conti Road Attacks only have 900 miles on them and the center is already starting to wear. I'll post again after I have a few thousand miles. I'll likely switch to Sportec M3, which were superb on my Hayabusa (no cupping, 10K mile wear, great cold and rain performance, quick warmup).

Re: Software Update
Having moved from a Hayabusa to a new R1200R, I've been very sensitive to this bike's nuances, so I've noticed a few changes with the engine ECU software update done yesterday with my first service: - nearly zero throttle free play (used to be 2-3mm, now about 1mm) - SUPERB on-off throttle transitio...

Re: Newbie Question About a Nosie
More often than not, I'm a *clunk* Neanderthal. I (continually) aspire to German *snick* robotic precision, more to keep my wife's helmet from hitting mine, than anything else.

Re: 650 x-country to r1200r upgrade - need advice
(I'm assuming 300 was a typo since you mention 150 mile rides) In addition to comments above, the R1200 is doable with 3000 street miles, just take it easy. It has a mountain of torque and engine braking. Other than the power, the biggest item I noticed with the boxer engine is the lateral vibration...

Re: Newbie Question About a Nosie
I'm new here (just sold my 2000 Hayabusa and bought an 08 R1200R). The R1200R is what my old Buell S3T aspired to be. I love it. (needs a windshield though) Back on topic, preload the shifter a little with your toe before shifting. It'll take the slack out of the shift shaft, usually allowing a butt...
