the pros and cons of the BMW sport windshield

Post by hayabusafiend »

I just installed the BMW sport windshield on my R1200R this morning.
PROS:
- Wind blast I felt at 60MPH is now up at 80MPH
- much less wind noise
- no buffeting

CONS:
- Really damn expensive (got it brand new as a dealer demo take-off at 50%)
- steering at highway speed is slowed by the windshield plowing through the air
- less air on me = less cooling (sucks in summer, will be a benefit in winter!)

my $.02

Hiya hya,

I presume BMW sport windshield you mention is the one which came stock with the bike (?new - if I'm incorrect on this - which shield came stock with your bike?). I just swapped that one out for a Cee Baileys +4/+4 and after 600+ mi over the past 48 hours - LOVE IT. I rode for years with the stock one which came with my bike but wanted a little more wind (and tropical storm Hanna) protection for the ride I'm on now (Atlanta to West Va on just about every road except interstate!!). Only paid $168 (including shipping) for it; best part is that it is interchangeable with the stock shield as they both use the same mounting brackets. If you go to the Cee Baileys website you'll see what I'm referring to.

Good luck in your endeavors,

Got to thinking that you may have accidently clicked the R1100R forum instead of the R1200R forum.

I'll look into the Cee Bailey's when CA rain comes.

p.s. I did post in the R1100R forum. Whoops! Doug moved it here. :D
