Re: New user, new to me bike
Hi, I moved to an R1150R Rockster from a honda firestorm and was overwhelmed by all the new noises I was hearing. All the things you have mentioned, a search of this forum will put your mind at ease, long story short 3 years later and I have to say it's my favorite bike of all the bikes I've ever ha...

Re: 1150R misses a lick...
Hi Carl, my Rockster tends to missfire and go about stalling at tickover when the throttle bodies are out of balance, also a TPS reset might help. These bikes really like the carbs to be balanced. Cheers.

Re: BMW clutch
Pull in clutch, load gear lever, release clutch slowly, snicks into gear first time every time. That's my way, no problem.

It's every bikers dream, go for it, one thing I would suggest is an Airhawk or sheepskin seat cover, you mightn't need it but It could save your ass

Re: Clutch spline opinions
Hi, both your splines and clutch look perfect. At 17500 miles I had a bit more wear on my shaft than you. I did the clutch spacer mod, http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?s=4e473b9f1090446cd01c9806a7ad6478&t=964425 , If it was mine i would do it, I got my local machine shop to run me u...

Re: Valve Tapping?
Hi Riverside, these bikes make all sorts of different noises when hot and when cold, most are just characteristics of the boxer engine.Mine makes an intermittent ticking noise on right hand side, it is the throttle body even with a ticker killer fitted. and it isn't even a high mileage bike. If the ...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis
Hi, Esmir. thanks to you I took the plunge and did the spacer mod. I got my local machine shop to run me up a spacer and rivet it on to a new clutch, total cost of around 150 Euro including clutch. My shaft wear was minimal so I'd say with the full engagment it will last for a long time. It's a pity...

Re: Clutch Spline Failure Analysis
Can't help but stick my nose in here, having recently done the clutch spacer mod I think I can give my views. At 17500 miles there were early signs of spline wear, thankfully minimal. My word of advice to anyone with a 6 speed 1150 is to do the spacer mod. It will add years to the life of your splin...

Re: repost: modifying my side stand for lower shocks?
Hi Clint, I lowered my rockster 30mm with wilber shocks in the summer. They are perfect 90% of the time but if you are riding rough roads or unsurfaced trails they will not have enough travel and will feel harsh. They deal with minor faults in the road better than stock but don't like ramps etc. I m...

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(
Great to see this feedback, I have bought a genuine clutch disc and am in the process of getting a spacer made here in Ireland, saves on freight, paypal etc. I would like to know if there is anything to be gained by leaving the spacer 6mm as opposed to 5mm or will I run into clearance problems? I am...

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(
This topic has been flogged to death on bmw forums and there are different reasons given for spline wear, my bike has only 15500 miles on it and when I get time I will be modifying my clutch with a 5mm spacer, there is definately room for improvment there. Hopefully this thread will keep going and w...

Re: Bye bye clutch splines :(
Hi, sorry to hear about your spline failure. I think at this stage most r1150 owners have spline failure paranoia. Can any one tell me if there were slivers of metal or other metal filings to be seen behind the starter before their splines stripped. I can't believe that there can be that much wear w...

Re: Howdy from the still frozen north
I bought a TWINMAX balancer soon after buying my Rockster and find it very easy to use. Do you feel the vibes through the seat and pegs or is it just the bars? I moved my bars back and up an inch and it took some of the vibes out of the bars, maybe because I am sitting more upright I am not gripping...

Lowering using Wilbers shocks
Hi Guys, I,m a bit of a short a** and am looking to lower my Rockster. I already have the low seat but I would like to be able to flat foot it when two up. Loose gravel under foot could end up embarrasing and even in divorce. It seems that wilbers are the only shock that do a specific lowering kit (...
