Hello, I mistakenly posted this on the R1200R forum, so here it goes on the 1150 site.
In the next few weeks, I'll be getting some new Wilbers that will lower my 2004 R1150R by about 30 cm. I need to find a welder who can modify the side stand and hopefully the center stand to accommodate the new height. Not sure I will be able to find a bike-savvy welder so if any of you folks have any tips to pass on to the welder about the best way to go about this -- figuring out the new length, adjusting the angle of the foot, that sort of thing -- I would appreciate it. I am also thinking I will need new springs for the side stand. Any idea on where to get shorter springs and if figuring out spring length will be trial and error or can you determine it based on how much the side stand was shortened,
Any if anyone can recommend a welder in the Sacramento, CA, area, so much the better.
Thank you.
Clint

30cm ???
that's really quite a huge reduction in ground clearance, in fact that's nearly ALL the ground clearance! (estimate from memory as I'm currently sitting in the office).
I'm not sure it'd be possible to lower it that much - do you mean 3cm? or possibly 3 inches?

oops -- I meant 30 mm

Hi Clint, I lowered my rockster 30mm with wilber shocks in the summer. They are perfect 90% of the time but if you are riding rough roads or unsurfaced trails they will not have enough travel and will feel harsh. They deal with minor faults in the road better than stock but don't like ramps etc. I measured 65mm of travel on front suspension, if I was to do it again I would lower it 20mm as opposed to 30mm.
I lowered my sidestand 20mm and it is perfect. you don't need to change the springs just cut it off the bottom and weld on a new foot,
great time to increase the size of the foot if you like as well.
