Joel, I removed my TBs last year, cleaned them, rebuilt the right one with new bushings, performed the "0=0" precedure and balanced them with my Twin-Max manometer. My suggestion would be to do a valve adjustment first, and then see if you can balance the TBs before taking everything apart...

My hard case covers were sprayed with Line-X brand bed liner. I did that a couple of years ago and they still look great. Super durable too.

I think that you have a bigger problem than a tight fit for you air intake tube. You bike shouldn't be backfiring when the intake valve is open and blow the hoses off your airbox.
