Problem solved! I sprayed the right handlebar switch assembly with WD40 and the issue has gone away. This must have been caused by water or some other foreign boy creating a connection on the right hand turn signal switch intermittently. I'll try spraing the switch with WD40 first.

We can rule rain water out as an issue the problem started on a beautifully warm sunny day.
