Indicator mystery

The right indicator on my 2004 R1150R has started to occasionally flash without me pressing the turn button. At first I thought I must have failed to push the cancel button, rather having pressed the right turn button, or that I had just left it on. However today this was happening repeatedly sometime in quick succession. I stopped the bike and wiggled the right handle bar wires but was unable to recreate the turning on of the indicator.
Does any know what is happening or how to diagnose/isolate the problem?

I have noticed on some RT's that in the rain the flashers have a mind of there own. Could water be the problem?

We can rule rain water out as an issue the problem started on a beautifully warm sunny day.

I'll try spraing the switch with WD40 first.

It might be something as simple as a loose wire or bulb in the turn signal housing itself. Have you taken the bulb out and checked the wiring there?

Problem solved! I sprayed the right handlebar switch assembly with WD40 and the issue has gone away. This must have been caused by water or some other foreign boy creating a connection on the right hand turn signal switch intermittently.

I would like to say a big thank you to anyone who contributed in any way to this thread. You have helped me eliminate versus possibilities and prevented me sending money on things like indicator relays that I do not need, or spending hours of my time dismantling investigating wiring looms and switch assemblies. By being brave enough to suggest what was quite possibility very obvious to you i.e. spray it with WD40, I can enjoy my bike this weekend, I do not have to have the bike of the road for weeks or pay a bike dealership or auto electrician money to find out what is wrong.

This website is a shining example of what an online community should be. People willing to help each other, who ask for no reward, just then knowledge of a common brotherhood. True altruism.
