Buzzing?

Looking for opinions...
My 04 RR with almost 12,000 mi has developed a problem?

Both up and down the tach, at exactly 3500 RPM, the front end ( or engine? )
has developed a high pitched buzzing sound. It is only at this RPM, not 3400, not 3600. I live in New England commuting daily to work and it just started a couple of days ago.

The only thing I have done recently was to change the oil and filter at 10,000 miles.

Thoughts anyone?

Tom,

I just started noticing the same thing. Bike has 14k, and just switched to synthetics for oil/tran/rear at the same time. Wondering if that has something to do with it?

I went through this very thing over the summer.
I found the bolt that holds the igntion switch had come loose and the wave washer on ther bolt was buzzing. You have to look behind the headlight and up under the igntion switch to see the bolt,it is a 6mm allen head bolt. My bolt had backed out about 4 mm by the time I found it and the noise was awfull.

The buzz is heard from the front, but not felt, either through the grips or elsewhere.

The more I experience it, the more I become convinced that it is not coming from the engine but must be something on the front end.

I think that I will have to do a thorough inspection of the front to see if anything is loose or missing.

Tom -
Get up to whatever speed/rpm produces the most vibes.
Pull in the clutch lever and roll off the gas.
If the vibes continue they are not in the engine or driveline "upstream" of the clutch, they are in the driveline, wheels, etc.
Try gently applying the brakes individually.
Be systematic and this may help narrow it down.

I remember a thread a few months back (on the old board I think) which was very similar to this.

If memory serves me correctly, the problem was tracked down to the clock. There was maybe... a lose back or something like that. Don't remember whose issue it was, but it was causing him a hell of a lot of concern and when pointed out... it was very easy to solve.

Now that I read this post I too had a loose clock at about 8,000 miles. That noise was a deeper buzzing type noise than the loose igntion switch bolt. Whatever you do do not overtighten the bolts at the back of the instrument cluster they will break!

I had a low rpm buzz. Located it to the tank area.

The filter inside the tank was touching the tank and resonating. Dealer carefully persuaded it away enought to stop it making contact. Did not have to take anything apart.

Now in the happy zone, that is another story, all sorts of things start to buzz - the way they should!!!

Trying to locate the area the buzz is most likely coming from is the hardest.
