Re: Stiction in fork legs?
Looks like CycleRob has the solution again and has now given me a purpose over the winter months, lol. I swear I looked at those fork tubes and saw no drain plug and thought, No maintenance! Damnit

Re: engine oil 1150R
I ran Amsoil in mine for 3 years and it was great. Then my "supplier" decided to stop selling it and I went for something easily obtainable at your local Walmart, Moibil 1 15w-50. The thing started smoking when it was on it's sidestand for any length of time which was totally embarrassing....

Re: Stiction in fork legs?
What year R? There are adjustments for the shocks as well as the spring pre-load described in the "Riders Manual" for my '04. Refer to section 2-41, 2-42. I think mine are set too stiff after zero'ing things out a year or two ago. Probably just getting old and not feeling the "sporty&...

Re: Mineral or synth oil for a 2004 r1150r?
Not sure the OP is still in the hunt here but I'll lend my pennies. I ran Amsoil in mine for five years since I bought it and was perfectly happy. Unfortunately my "oil guy" stopped selling that stuff and I ended up at Walmart. They had the 15w-50 Mobil 1 which I wasn't thrilled by but it'...

Re: Spline Lubes To be or not to Be
How many miles? There aren't any telltale signs to my knowledge. I think CycleRob posted his results here...do a search. It took me 7'ish hours my first time. I had a transmission jack and just slid the wheel, swing arm and trans back all in one piece. I'd say a Clymers manual or the like is a neces...

Re: Clutch lube time..
Hey Bruce, your right, the splines do not fully engage the clutch hub and your assessment of 5mm shy sounds pretty close. I think there was a company up in Canada that would custom make and input shaft that was longer as well but it was more than the clutch disk you mentioned. I think I read about i...

Clutch lube time..
I haven't posted here in a long time but I have been lurking :) I'm just under 14k miles on an '04 R1150R and tore it down today to check the splines. I'm apparently one of the lucky ones and the tranny input shaft looked good. The clutch side showed a bit of wear but not enough, in my opinion, to c...

Re: Muffler off; Mileage up
I can't prove or disprove the increase in fuel economy with the muffler removed. The tip provides a grin factor that I'm young enough to appreciate :) The weight reduction is welcome as well. Although if I went on a diet I'm sure I could make up for more than the muffler... After reading this thread...

It should work just fine to keep a charge on it and to offset the slow drain by the motronic. Per the Odyssey manual: http://www.bigczone.com/odysseymanpage.JPG

I would think about carrying...if I had a permit. Although across state lines and what not would seem like asking for trouble. A blade will suffice for my needs be it some benign activity or self defense. Bottoms up for the Gerber that assists at the campsite yet could stab a miscreant in the back f...

http://www.batteryplex.com/odyssey-detail.cfm?model=PC680 It's only around $20 more than an SLA and the thing cranks in just obscene temps. Actually that price has come down since I bought mine. I paid around $130 shipped about 6 months ago. If your a fair weather rider then I can understand why you...

I like your choice of a manual ;) The Forester is very versatile and as you mentioned has quite a few creature comforts. If you go with the XT model, I've heard there's nothing quite like seeling the look on someones face when they get stomped by a wagon  You are looking at new models right? I'...

If I were in the market now, I'd be looking for a Forester XT. But... but... Forester is a woman's car. Right? ;) Heh, go drive one (an FXT)...or better yet, find a buddy that has one on stage 2. 100mph comes up fairly quickly ;) I don't think they've scheduled any yet for 2008 but if anyone is wit...

We've got an '01 Forester and an '03 Impreza WRX. If you want power, you'll need to go with one of the turbo models. I've seen folks go easily over 100k on the stock turbo's with no problems. I don't know if that's an issue for you or not... Some folks don't like the complexity they add to a vehicle...

Dang you have plenty of options but nothing seems to fit... Sorry :( I like using both brakes for every stop and I don't have ABS. And I'm surely no whiz at it... I haven't hit anything in front of me so....I guess that's a good thing. But the point you've made is appropriate. This forum frustrates ...
