Replacement battery advice
My original battery has expired (after 5 yrs. 8 mos., RIP) and reading all the posts below about what a PIA it is to replace or even check the fluid on R1150R batteries, and potential fuel line damage, etc., I'm looking for recommendations on the longest lasting, most maintenance-free replacement. I've searched a bit and see many folks like the Odyssey PC 680, but would a gel type last longer? My local bike shop is recommending a conventional Yuasa (ie: flooded electrolyte type) as plenty good enough, but I'm wondering since it's so hard to check fluid level, etc. Any advice appreciated. TIA
I recently replaced mine for the first time. I was expecting the tank removal to be a big drama. but it really went a lot easier than I thought. That being said, I would still recommend you get the PC 680 battery. It just seems to be the most common solution when a new battery is needed, and while the tank thing isn't a big deal, it's not something I'm going to miss doing. It sounds like a lot of people have fuel line issues sooner or later, and frequent removal of the tank can't help the odds.

I agree I replaced mine two nights ago new battery I chose was the PC 680 easy change providing you have someone hold tank as you remove and replace.

I'm a big fan of doing things the smarter easier way without cutting any corners. I have not tried removing the battery with the fuel lines attached since I have a WestCo maintenance free battery.
If you do it be very aware of this:
-- the fuel lines are short and very rigid
-- the QD's are plastic and not very strong
-- the damage you may do to the QD's may not show immediately
Think about it and watch what you are doing, slowly & very carefully.
