system case question

I have a chance to purchase a set of full size cases that were fitted for an 1998 R1100GS, anyone know if these will fit my "02" R1150R? Thanks Den

I think they might...when you say full size..are they both full size or does the left have a cut away for the exhaust?..and do you have the rails that they mount to?

DJ, I currently have the city cases (with the cut out) the ones I am looking at do not have the cut out, And that was going to be my next question, I know some riders have just taken the muffler off, and some have gotten the muffler lowering kit, My question? is there any harm in running with-out the muffler? And Yes, the cases come with rails, I have not seen (only pictures, and they look pretty good ) of the cases and rails, the seller and I are going to meet next week, he has agreed to save them for me, and I have agreed to purchase on condition they will fit my bike. They should attach to your rails but the muffler will be a problem. You will need to lower or change you exhaust, but you can't go without any muffler and expect the bike to run properly (not to mention quietly). You may be able to swap the lids to your cases as I think they are all the same profile. I believe it is as simple as drilling out the rivets and popping some new ones in.

What kind of tailbag setup do you have there? I've been looking for one for my 1150R and that looks roomy.

They wont fit without lowering your exhaust.
As Larry says, just change over the lids, would be the simplist way.
Sound like they are off an RT, or RS, not a GS, unless exhaust had been lowered.

I've been running without a muffler for more than four years now...without any problems at all...and I ride almost every day.

As long as the cat is in place....the cat works like a big mufler.

I've had a few BMW mechanic's check it out and all have given me the thumbs up..it's not much different to running with a sports type muffler.

You will find it not much louder without the can...just a bit deeper sound...mine passed our sound check of 94db without a problem

You will need to pop rivet two small 'L' brackets to the inner of the left case so you can use the original lower foot for the case to locate on.

Let my know if you need some pics showing the bracket options.

I'm with DJ - This has been done to death under various other posts, but my bike is over 85,000 kms and was de-canned at 30,000 kms. My mechanics have no problem with it, provided the cat and O2 sensor stays in place. The standard back-firing (slight popping) is more audible without the can to muffle it, and you need a tip to direct the exhaust gas away from the case and wheel, but it's an easy way to go to a full-size left case. Best thing I ever did.

Larry, That is a "Givi E45 jr" I needed it in a hurry and it seems to be fine, (not as big as it looks) I purchased it at "Midwest cycle supply" in Mpls, they also have a store on e-bay.

Yes...that's it... ....I made up my own bracket that mounts off the back of the pillion peg mount..but I think these little 'L' brackets are a better way to go.
