Help; Bike stalled and is making clicking noises

Post by Karter »

 Received my 2004 R1150R after it spent 2 months in a crate during shipment from NY to Israel. The safety buckle that had been strapped over the seat must have been too tight as it tore a hole. Than I gassed up the bike, turned it on and off to get some fuel pumped through and was able to start 'er up with minimal effort. After a couple minutes of letting the engine idle, I jumped on took a spin through the parking garage and pulled onto the street. When I came to a stop at the end of the block, the bike stalled. I was unable to start it and now the only sound I'm getting is a clicking noise. Though I didn;t have much tiome to play around as I had to get back to work.
1-could I have flooded the engine?
2-do I need to charge the battery? (it was plugged in during shipment.)
3-Where can I order another factory seat? (preferably a higher one than standard issue

Sounds like you had just enough juice to start it at first, then when it stalled, the initial start-up had drained the battery. Probably not charged properly during shipment.
Too bad about the seat. Order one from Chicago BMW (if they will ship to Israel) and get a 20% discount.

Check the battery connections for tightness. If they are loose you will not get enough juice to start the engine. It is surprising that it started after the journey and not afterwards.

Regarding the seat I will check the For Sale section here and that on eBay, you can find what you are looking for probably cheaper than buying new. The shipment will cost the same, new or used.

Mind you this is not to put down on Boxer's sugestion, merely another option............ 8)

I agree with Boxermania's suggestions. I let me battery die once and had a similar situation. I resolved the problem by charging the battery overnight with a battery tender. The next day it started and ran just fine and I haven't had any problems since.

BMW seats are, IMHO, candidates for use against enemy combatants--I couple of hours on mine and I was willing to confess to anything. Although super expensive, my Sargent seat was the best investment I've made for my R so far.

Good luck--be sure to let us know about riding in Isreal.

Just replace the battery and be done with it.
