My 2005 R1150R with BMW Touring windshield is in need of a cover for winter protection. The current Dowco has several holes in it where the hot exhaust had its way. Should I simply replace with another Dowco or is there a better cover. PS. right now the bike doesnt have cases or case mounts but I suppose a cover that will accomodate cases is a good thing.

There is a BMW cover for the R1150R. It is very nice. Flannel lined where it would touch a shield. Large enough to fit the bike with bags and touring shield. A clear window in the rear to show license plate. Apparently that is required by law in some areas. Grommets in the bottom to allow locking. Attached bungies to keep the cover from blowing off. Vents on the sides to reduce moisture build up.
I always did let the bike cool before I put the cover on but seem to remember it had a coating around the bottom. Sold it here in buy/sell when I no longer needed it.
Seems it was ~120$ or so. Expensive, but I thought it was worth it.

Before I went to my first rally I researched this. I found a Carmax half cover that did the trick perfectly. Good thing too since it poured rain.
The half cover was around $30 and others that have them said they've lasted for years.

If money's no option..here's the best idea IMO...there are a few different types out there now... http://www.autotoystore.com/carcapsule.html ..I think Ducati sell one.

I'm certain it's a nice cover--BMW accesories (and clothing) are generally very high quality. However, the plate window is a strong contraindication and while you dont note it above the BMW covers are generaly BMW-logoed and I prefer to keep passersby guessing at what's under wraps.DSKYZD wrote:There is a BMW cover for the R1150R. Looks pretty cool--i saw something similar on ebay called bikevault o some such thing. but it really wouldnt do on the streets of NYC. I don't have a garage so I bought a Cycle Shell http://www.cycleshell.com to protect my bike when not in use. It's very well made. When I'm done riding, I drive my bike onto the rigid platform and close the shell. Nothing touches bike and no one can tell what's inside.
