I've now read a second ride report on the upcoming R1200R:

Mechanically it appears to be about what we would expect after the similar upgrades of the GS and RT/S, but the big question about whether BMW might feel obligated to ruin the styling in the service of change for the sake of change seems to be comfortably answered as well--different enough to satisfy the requirement of a "new look for a new model," but similar enough to retain the classic beauty of the 1150.

I like it. What do the rest of you think?

I like it...but I'm not in love with it like I was when I first saw the R1150R.

I miss the oil coolers on the tank...I miss the beak (really)...I miss the classic looking instrument cluster..I miss the two piece seat.

Sure it's lighter and has more power..but I don't mind the weight (the 1150 feels so planted)...and I'm happy with the current power.

I might change my mind when I see it for real..sit on it..and ride it..

I quite like it too. I have ridden the R1200GS, and the power is awesome. I cant afford to uptrade at the moment, but will be riding one when I have a chance. Then look for a good 2nd hand one in a couple of years when the bugs are sorted.
I must agree that the R1150R is a bloody good bike(it is my 4th Beemer),
and I would not be in a hurry to sell it.

I'll look at the new R, but since I'm not in the market, I'm not riding one. I'm sure I'll like it.

Besides, I swear my '02 was smoother and handled better than ever on today's ride. Maybe it was just because the title arrived in the mail this week!

Sure, until you ride one.

HAve to say - I just got off a 2 day loan on a 1200GS (about 250 miles of virtually every type of road - city (London), motorway, open A, open B, tight, B, tight unclass, and even a few hundred yards of green lane.) And although the GS handled it all well - I'm still happier on the Rockster.

I'll go with that as well. I will ride one the day I decide to trade the 1150 but not before. I like the look of the 1200 and I like the idea of more power but I only just got this one and I like to keep 'em four or five years. Should be newer, debugged and fully loaded secondhand 1200's all over the place by the time I'm ready for one!

I was on a R100RS when the K bikes came out. Rode a friends K100 and thought it too buzzy for me. I heard the K75 was smoother and a great machine. With two new kids, new house payments - I refused to ride on because I was not going to be tempted!

Finally rode one years later, after they had quit making them, even briefly owned one but decided to avoid the temptation when I couldn't do anything about it.

Oh, puh-leeze! What a bunch of fraidy cats.

I guess I'm lucky with regard to temptation. I demo ride every bike I can. I like trying new things. It turns out that I don't like half the new bikes I ride. I like my Roadster, and it is paid for. That's all the armor I need against temptation. When the R1150R is worn out I'll already know what the replacement will be, because I will have already ridden it. If my bike doesn't suit me well, then it's not temptation - it's looking for a better bike.

I am very interested in all these suspension, braking and electro-mechanical-computer additions which appear to be (a BMW first) appearing on the Roadster sooner than the other models.

Let's see: Continental-TEVES 4th gen ABS, ESA, DSC/ASC, CANBUS II, lighter (up to 60 lbs), more power, more torque, more....and a black bike in the first year's production run!!!!

Well, we will see won't we?
