Have fun, and enjoy the area.

BTW, Brian thanks for the help last year in WV.

Okay, I hope y'all have a really good time zooming around out there in west Texas. For the evening, I suggest getting Deano a little lit and pumping him for info on what's coming down the pike from our German friends. And don't sign any NDAs.

Just returned from the Big Bend trip, to say the least, it was fantastic. Dallara definitely does things up first class, the bar he set up had every kind of booze known to man and every munchy you could think of, that guy does party hardy. How about some warp factor riding...you bet and I mean some serious Go Fast, the tires on my ST have absolutely no chicken strips. Made the just under 600 miles back home today in 7 1/2 hours with 3 gas stops and a Big Mack attack lunch. One of Mz Pams pies was waiting.

Back home safe and tired - 577 miles in 7 hours. A nice Sunday ride and time to buy milk at the corner store!

Allan excelled himself and made himself proud!! He could be banned from being any sort of host in the future - he almost embarrased us with his kindness and refused our pareticipation - the RAT.

"..warp speed riding...?" Really? I thought that is the way they are supposed to be ridden- when no one was looking? Sheesh- Alan shredded his tire to the steel cords! And, the Old Hoon just could not get his ST to match the speed at salt flats - he tried.

A wonderfull time. Great weather, great territory, great company, great riding. It does not get much better than that.

Thanks to all.

Glad to hear you're all making it back home with no misfortune. Well, a Big Mac might be considered a misfortune if eaten as quickly as it must have been.

Allan is definitely an outstanding individual. :) And truely unique. I can't wait for the pics to start showing up. My envy knows no bounds as I look at making another soggy ride in the morning.

Fun, Fun, Fun!

Post by dallara »

Well, Folks...

I can see some of my fellow partners in crime have already chimed in with some thoughts on this weekend's Big Bend ride... Please allow me to add - *IT WAS FUN !!!*

I'm pretty tired and knackered out, but a few brief thoughts...

What a great bunch of riders! :smt023

Dean most definitely deserves his icon status, many times over. A joy to be with, funny as can be, and rides like the wind. Probably loves riding as much as any person I have ever known, and loves life twice as much as that! =D>

Brian - known here as our own Acacia - is one of the most interesting people I have ever met. Cool, calm, and completely unflappable... But with a wry wit and wonderful sense of humor, and brilliantly intelligent. A true pleasure to be around. :smt006

Ron - our MooseR1100R - has a fascinating background and is never without a smile or a wonderful story to tell, and we even discovered we knew some of the same people from our earlier years (man, it's a small world...). Moose is an accomplished pilot and a joy to hang out with. :D

Bill, from McAllen, is a truly amazing gentleman... Beyond description, really. A true inspiration. This guy has gone through more than anyone should ever have had to, yet he accepts it all with an infectious sense of humor and positive attitude that will awe you. A real "one-of-a-kind" who I was privileged to spend time with...

Each of these were board members, but there were others along, too.

A good friend of mine, Doug Smith, who rode his highly modified Honda Superhawk - brilliantly, as always - and that I only hope at least some of you will meet someday.

Paul Massie, who rode a Triumph Speed Triple with the same grace and pace of a Paul Smart, and was as gracious and good-natured fellow as you would ever want to meet...

Dave Mock, who rides a Harley-Davidson Road King quicker than it has any right to go... Especially in the *DIRT*! He's an old friend, and it is an honor to have him as one.

Two fellows we all just met out there in Alpine - Mike Callas and Louis Jordan - both mounted on R-1150-RT's, were truly a pleasure, and Mike rides his RT as though it were a 250 GP bike. Each had fascinating histories, and both may be members here soon. They will be an asset, I assure you, and if you ever get a chance to ride or hang out with 'em, don't pass it up! Mike's an old car racer, too, and has some great stories to go along with his expertise in building incredibly fast Porsche's.

It may be possible to have a group to ride and spend time with as good as this one, but I cannot conceive of a group any better. So many had never met any of the others before, but you wouldn't have known it. All got along as though they had known each other forever, and there was absolutely no friction of any kind... Only laughter, camaraderie, and a genuine sense of good will, along with great jokes, pranks, and stories.

It was truly my privilege and honor to have shared time with each and every one for the weekend. I only wish it could have gone on for much longer.

My sincerest thanks to each of you who went along. I can only hope we can all do it again together soon, and often.

Cheers!

Now you know what Darth looked like after the FIRST rear drive failure!
Only it wasn't a joke.
After a $400 U-Haul ride home I found a digital pic on my office wall of Darth in Distress with a note from my Harley riding boss that said "Dave - Even Harleys don't leak THIS much!"
And a bag of kitty litter on my desk.
Looks like you boys had a mighty fine time!

Tires...

Dean most definitely scrubbed in his new Pilot Sport on this trip. I tried to keep him honest...

But while your looking at Dean's rear tire, notice the &^*#@*%$ Metzler Z-6 on my R-1150-R immediately to the ST's left... There you will also see a lack of "chicken strips" and good feathering to the edges... But if you look carefully you will also see shredded rubber and cord showing down the friggin' center!!!

Z-6... I know what that stands for now... ZERO to 6,000 miles - MAX!!!

And I only got 4,000 of those!

Cheers!

Just In...

*** NEWSFLASH ***

This Just In...

While we were in the Texas Big Bend country for our recent ride, little did we know, but the McDonald Observatory was doing some radio telescope and infrared imaging of some of our riders...

Here's a radio spectrum/infrared image they got of Dean "Grandpa Hoon" Lear of how he looks inside his helmet when he is out in the twisties on his R-1200-ST...
