System Case Repair

Hello All.. I've ordered the parts #46 54 2 307 620 to repair my saddlebag that I lost & then found again when the clamp that holds it to the bike broke.. Has anyone done this repair? & can maybe offer some advice or do's & don'ts. There is a PDF on the repair parts page.. Thanks.. great to be back too..

I don't remember the part number but I will assume that your talking about the BMW "repair Kit" no?

The kit has the pop or blind rivets to install the mechanism so you need a blind/pop rivet puller. You have to drill out the existing rivets and remove the broken unit.
When you get it out you have to remove your lock core. If you have never done that ? you put your key in and leave it in until you install in new unit or it will fall apart!!!!!important. There is a spring loaded flat tab that will recess into the core on the base of the core you have to push in to release the core with a small screwdriver (blade) or a thin nail will work and then extract the core and install into new unit. (turn the key so its locked in).
Then basically you just slide the new unit into the space where the old one was and use the supplied rivets to rivet it in.
Not too hard just take your time. Its is helpful to have a 90 degree drill so it will fit inside the bag. If not if you have a small drill that will work...tight quarters there.

OK.. Thanks. Been looking at everything that's out there on the repair & seems straight forward enough..
I've read were the rivets are an "off sized" that come in the repair package.. Will any rivet tool work for the job?

Usually when you buy a puller it will have 3 or 4 other nipples/dies that you change to, they just screw in. Mine start at 1/16 up. The hard part is getting the drill into the bag un less you have a 90deg or a small hand held. I don't remember the size, maybe an 1/8, but not sure.

4 mm or 5/32 Thought my dremel would do it but the chuck is too small.. No problem though, we got that..

OK.. Done... Not too bad at all.. purchased a close quarters drill for the rivet drilling & rivet tool..Inexpensive e bay items..
The system Case unit came fully assembled & complete. Only required removal of lock barrel, rivets, & install unit & new supplied rivets. Thanks for the advice.

Bravo, one hell of a allot better than buying an unknown off e bay for$300 or ...gulp buying a new one.

For those reading this I would add, you need some? mechanical experience to do this 'cause I have seen this fix butchered up. It would still be cheaper by far to pay someone for an hour of labor that is capable.

The 1150 beemer has a great bag system!
