Any navigational app that allows me to specify mode of transportaion?

Post by MThomas »

In other words if I specify motorcycle, I'd get directed towards HOV/Motorcycle roads and also away from any unpaved/hazardous roads?

I guess you're talking about phone apps. You'd just need to search your app store whether you have android or iphone. Otherwise what Gregor said.

google maps does. only, via personal vehicle, foot, bicycle, public transport. doesn't specify WHICH vehicles. And it has a few options for routing. "Avoid tolls, avoid highways" etc.

I find that app to suit my needs perfectly. I tried the "waze" app briefly, its cool, and I like the concept. but it takes more attention than I want. Also, I can make a custom route on my PC, and send it to my phone. Then have the phone on my handlebars. or in my pocket, and wireless headphones.

otherwise, yeah get a good garmin.

I guess my use case is simple: I plug in my destination and I want the route to consider HOV lanes (since I'm on a bike) in addition to the apps usual routes

a little interwebbin' found that it is not available in any app form yet. Google and Waze both mention that they are workin on it.

But it IS included on many Garmin devices.

I'll hold off until absolutely necessary - right now I have way too many devices and I'm trying to own less devices

Motorcycle specific gps devices are kinda expensive. I have a relatively new inexpensive Garmin I might try a weatherproofing procedure on and see how it goes. You can easily spend $500-$700 on a m/c gps.

No I don't use a smartphone on my bike, all smartphone screens are hard to read/view is broad daylight and a Garmin Zumo is made for exactly that purpose. I still use an old Zumo 550 with life time map updates. The hardware is old, but it's uptodate.
