BMW SAE 5-30 Twin Turbo Factory Oil From Dealer-Can I Use?

I probably know the answer but, I just received 2 cases of this 5-30 BMW Auto Oil marketed for BMW autos with Twin Turbos. What would be the result of using this in my Beakster? Just curious. I have BMW vehicles I can use it in but as I have 24 1 litre bottles, it may be around for awhile. Thx gang!

I'd think it would mostly depend on the temperatures where you ride and the SAE rating of the oil (SG, SH, or SL?)

30 wt oil is not adequate for the boxer at our latitudes. The engineers specified 20W50, better stick with that and ideally at least SH/SG

The BMW manual that came with my bike (a 2002 R1150R) specifies SAE 10W-30 may be used between temps of -5F and 50F, and a "Special oil" with SAE 5W-X (where X >= 40 ) may be used from below -20F to above 85F, so combining these two pieces of data it seems you should be able to use SAE 5W-30 oil between temps of -20F up to 50F.

It's probably good for riding in Alaska!

So I'll keep it for my "Long Way Around" treck of the great white north sometime in future. Meanwhile, I'll stick with the recommended weight-don't wanna do nothing to harm my baby beakster. Thx. Guys!
