Sturzbgel - Meaning

Post by gregor »

I was idly searching through the BMW forums as you do.
Came across a German BMW listed with a damaged Sturzbgel.'It was obviously an accident (not by me), so the left Sturzbgel was bent'.. Harley Davidsons also seem to have them in profusion... Tried to use Google translate which did not work but may other bikes also seem to have a Sturzbgel. Or a Sturzbügel even- which look like weedy crashbars.
Any linguists out there?

Crash bars or engine guards I think.

We got there by guesswork and deduction . The Google German to English translation does not work. Hence all those otherwise English worded ads with Sturzbugel in them.
Those wonderful German nouns.
