49'R Rally

Post by swamper »

Just got home last night from attending the 49'R Rally out here in Mariposa Ca. at the fairgrounds. Pretty good get together with a large mix of BMW models showing up. What got my attention was how many guys had older models with high mileage, well into the 200-300,000 range even on early 2000 models. I was the only R1150R in attendance and saw only one R1200R there. A lot of GS's in all years including Air Heads. My R got a lot of attention as many there had never seen one, a surprise to me. Most called it the BMW sports bike.

Still need to check out the 49er. Did a quick NorCal weekend 5/16-18, and saw rain only during the I-5 run south to good roads.

You ever visit Oregon for the Chief Joseph rally?

Nice picture, did you take the Stewarts point road or stay on Hwy.1.
Haven't done the Chief Joe Rally, maybe in the future.

That particular day was short: Red Bluff to Williams to meet riding buddy, Clear Lake, CA175 to 101, Stewarts Pt Rd to 1, then up to Fort Bragg. We had ridden Stewarts Pt previously, but it was fun nonetheless. Some crazy guy in a 40ft RV let us pass before the downhill single lane switchbacks, and we cheered him (and jeered) when he emerged later at Hwy 1.

Checked the dates of the Chief Joe Rally and we will be on our ride up to Alaska, maybe next year.

Maybe I'll see you at the 2016 inaugural 49er.
