Throttle issue after storage

Post by Aitch »

Hello,
Been off the R1150R for a couple of years but my new knees have me ready for the saddle. Got the bike out, drained fuel, replaced battery and put in 2 gal of 91 octane with about 1 oz of Heet to combat condensation and water that got in when I opened the fuel filler cap.
It cranked a little then started, boy did it start! It was if the throttle was wide open. Revved up to near red line before I shut it down. Throttle cables are not sticking. Started three times with same result?
Puzzled.

Thanks,
Aitch

did that happen immediately? and was it ok when you parked it? was gonna say, did you forget about the fast idle lever...but that wont make redline....

check and see if one of your throttle cables aren't bunched at the adjustment point, right above the tb..or even the throttle grip. The cable can pop out and get crooked. happened to me during tank removal. check that when you release, the throttles go all the way to the stop.

other than that....not sure...

intake boot (between head and TB's) cracked or loose. butterflies themselves stuck open a tad inside?

hmmm.. you're drawing in extra air somehow.

also, maybe its just happy to see you after a couple years? :)

Maybe reset the throttle thingy. i.e. switch on ignition and fully open and close the throttle. Then switch off. After checking the previous advice and lubing the cables try again.
Hope all goes well with the knees!

Thanks Gregor and Peels, did as suggested, ignition on, open and shut throttle, ignition off then it fired as it should and after a bit settled down to an idle....after it quit smoking...

Thanks for the help!
