I’ve been picking away at getting my bike ship-shape as I have this growing obsession of riding it to the Arctic Circle in 2015. I’ve amassed everything I need to deal with the rust under the fuel filler tube (POR 15 starter kit, cover ring, and new fasteners) and the corrosion behind the generator belt cover. I’ve also wished a number of times I had a side-stand foot. So, a few weekends ago, I installed one I ordered from Bob’s. Very nice machined foot with all of the necessary SS fasteners at a modest price. In prep I had to clean up the ragged edges of the existing foot with a file, then removed the rust from and painted the bottom. A few days later I installed the Bob’s foot after applying a layer of Permatex Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV I had on hand between the two so no water could sneak in. The whole business then got a coat of black paint to make it less conspicuous and prevent corrosion.
You know, I imagine, that riding to the Arctic Circle in Alaska will only entail riding on about 60 miles of dirt road, not counting the construction zones you may hit on the Alcan or Cassiar Highways. Much of the 115 miles of the Dalton Highway to the circle has been paved. Some is old and deteriorating, but still no real challange to ride. I've seen Wings, Harleys, Vespas and Crotch Rockets at the Arctic Circle. I've been up and down the roads to and from Alaska a dozen times in the past four years. For the most part it is like riding any country road in the US, just a heap more expensive.... and often with better scenery.

My Bob's sidestand foot is now riding on its third roadster. It was one of the few pieces that survived the crash of my beautiful blue roadster in 2010. It put in another 12,000 miles on my "temporary" black lowered chassis roadster and is now continuing service on my '13 blue roadster.
Painting it black does make it disappear from sight. Once you're used to it, naked sidestand feet look small and spindly.
