42,000 miles to break-in?
My '07 R12R has always required additional oil between the 6K mile change intervals. Upon changing and filling to the top of the circle when warm, right around the 3K mile mark it would be near the bottom of the circle and I'd fill back to the top of the circle. At 36K I tried the Motorex Boxer oil 15W-50 synthetic and did not need to add any oil during the 6K, but the level was near the bottom of the sight glass circle when 6K rolled around. I put fresh Motorex in at 42K and now with 48K, the level has never budged from the top of the circle. I'm having a difficult time believing that it took this many miles for the engine to break-in, but am at a loss for any other explanation. Thoughts anyone?

Hard for me to equate oil useage with "break in" as many engines will use oil through out their life.... while others will never require additional oil since new.
If that is your bench mark, well...you are finally there!

It can take that long.. or not. Depends on how you ride it I think. Mine used oil (about 1 PT in 1500 miles) until I took it on a ride to West Virginia for a week. After that ride - it sipped oil (from the center dot to near the bottom of the window in 6,000 miles.) Now at 51,000 miles - it never changes. The engine just seems to get sweeter and sweeter as the miles roll on it.
