New Bike Mania?

Post by mattpeyton »

I took a ride round the island of Manhattan today, riding down the FDR, round the battery, up to a photo stage on the westside. Then, errands round the town, 4 stops, pick up lunch for the family i kept it hot in the tailbox.

I must say, I've been following the thread regarding the new bikes, RT, S, ST, etc. My pal got a killer deal on the K1200GT last season, and I took that bike up to 100 MPH on 17 W last fall. Impressive! Tempting!!!!

However, I just want to put a vote in for gratitude -- boring, corny, but true. . My pop would have said I was WAY AHEAD just to get away with THIS bike at my age/family status. I must agree. This thing really rings perfect every time I take it out for a spin. Awesome around town, feels safe every day, never grumbles or stalls, comfortable as heck.. :D

Not enough choices...

I'm happy with, and keeping, my Roadster... but, If I can swing it I'm getting the K1200R, also.

I Love My Roadster

Post by Gord »

Love the 1150R!

I am itching to get out. Weather prediction is for 11, 15, 18 degrees Celsius next week. Get rid of the snow and ice! Then get rid of the sand and salt on the roads! Then ride! Hopefully next weekend will be my first ride of the year!

I was tempted by the K1200S I sat on at my dealer's launch on March 12. But can't afford to trade right now - financially or emotionally!

Keepin' mine!

Have lots of plans for upgrades and lots of trips I want to take. If I decide I need something else, the Ducati will go before the BMW.

Hey Dean, the ST won't keep the Roadster very good company when it's out on the road all the time while the trusted ol' Roadster sits home, faithfully waiting in the garage.

I love my '04 R1150R! I dream from time to time about buying the newer R1200RT or maybe a K GT1200 or K GT1300. But, for me the R1150R is far too practical in terms of cost/benefit analysis. After all, I don't really ride long distances with maybe 90% of my rides being about 90 minutes in duration and probably no more than 70 miles at most. So, buying a super-duper bike with all the extras they have is a dream but simply not practical for my needs—much like buying either a Mercedes S-class or a BMW 7-series to go to the local grocery store. Those would all be fun but low-priority compared to life's many other needs for spending one's money.

There are so many great and tempting bikes out there. I love the Beemers and enjoy reading about the new K1600GT. However, to paraphrase one ofthe guys above, it's a joy to have even one bike (especially a Beemer) to ride. I suppose I'd enjoy owning a stable of bikes, but I enjoy my bike and enjoy admiring the other rides. Sometimes the wanting/admiring is better than the having.

Having a stable of bikes means maintaining a stable of bikes. One for me for now. And that one is an R. Wouldn't mind a touring model some day, though...

my Roadster is a keeper. i bought it for life. i've ridden lots of bikes (as an owner & test drives etc.) and nothing comes close to the R259 Roadster.

i sometimes look at other bikes (Guzzi V7, Ducati's, HD sportster), but they would be "in addition to" the R1150R.
and i never pull the trigger when i'm infatuated with another bike.
it would just sit in the garage anyway while the Beemer will get ridden all the time.

Gotta love rejuvinated topics!

Back in 2005 when this thread started, I'm most assuredly voted for "keeper", as I'd just bought Rockster and gave R1150R Roadster to my wife as hand-me-down.

This topic is timely, as just last week I "voted" once again to keep the Rockster when insurance company declared the bike Total Loss after getting hit by another motorcyclist.

Love(d) the R1150R.
MLW still wants to tattoo R1150R on herself somewhere as it was a life altering experience.
We even kept it after getting Elephantitus; but it just sat there in the garage, bereft of ABS, ESA & ASC.
Alas, now it is gone, into the someone who will also ride TSOOI as it always like having TSROOI.

Reallly, really, really liked that bike.

Like Elephantitus as much or more.

Wow - a 5-year old thread revived! And still relevant! I guess I voted already, since the same bike that was in the garage when the poll first appeared is still there! ;)

Of course, I have added a dual sport to the mix also!

Oh and . . . .

I love my '02 R1150R except for two things.

1. SURGING. Drives me nuts. It has defied all efforts to cure it.

2. Legroom. It doesn't have enough, though I have the high seat on it. I'm told the answer is a custom seat but that is big $, and it would still be surging. I've also heard some people use peg extenders but that would reduce the cornering clearance. And it seems it would be strange since the pegs move but not the controls with peg extenders. Plus the $ for them ain't cheap either.

Other than that, I love the bike. However I am currently trying to sell it. Dreaming of an R1200R though it would probably have the same legroom issue. Supposedly the surging issues have been cured with the R1200R. Big $ though.

So I'll continue to ride the R1150R until I sell it, I suppose.
