Headlight shimmering?

I took a ride out to West Virginia today and I was following a friend. When we stopped, he asked me if I had a headlight modulator. I don't have one so I looked to see if my headlight was loose. My friend said that it was annoying because it looks like I am flashing him. Does anyone else have this problem?

Before you get too much into debugging your bike, check and see if his mirrors are vibrating. I have had that complaint from a HD rider. It never occurred to him that his mirrors shake


If you want to check your lights go our after dark and ride. If something is loose you should see the beam really jiggling around quite easily.

Also check to make sure that the two screws which hold the headlight bucket are tight. Loose -> bucket movement -> appearance of flickering.
