Hi all,

I am picking up my new-to-me 2007 R1200R next week and riding it home. I will need to adjust the shifter a little to make room for my size 13 boots. I have searched and learned it seems easy to do. Can someone tell me what type and size wrench is needed? From what I gathered from what I have read and the pictures I have seen you just loosen the one bolt clamp and move the shifter on the splines. Is there anything else I need to do or not do?

That the procedure. You'll need an E8 external torx. The tightening torque is 8 NM. There's an index mark on the gearshift shaft for reference.

When you remove the external torx, replace it with an allen. That is the only external torx bolt on the bike, and you don't want to have to carry a special wrench just for that.

Ah - but then you have to carry an Allen.. and there is only one other Allen on the bike that I know of - all the rest are Torx..

BTW - I forget if it's an 8mm or 7mm box wrench fits just fine... that's what I used.

I'm not sure if I have any external Torx wrenches , i know for sure I don't carry any.
All of this time I have been so vunerable riding around without one, I shutter.

You can actually use a small socket. I can't remember what size fits, but I carry one.

I changed the E8 for a hex-head bolt from my bolt drawer. Works fine. Tossed a 10mm open-end wrench in the toolbag.

That sounds like a good idea. I DO have plenty of 10mm wrenches around.

...unless you have any third-party items bolted to your bike, in which case you're probably already carrying allen wrenches.

Good to know! Though I ordered a set of external torx sockets yesterday.
