Front Wheel Vibration ?

Post by dodi »

I have have spent two weeks riding around on my new to me R1200r and absolutely love the bike. I have a 2009 (Blue ) 15 000 Kms with the low seat and low frame. I noticed right away from my demo ride that the front end / front wheel didn't quite feel right to me. It felt like there was a slight rubbing or minor vibration coming from the front wheel. I thought maybe the rotor was slightly warped and that something was definitely not quite right. I brought the bike back to the dealer and they had 2 separate mechanics go on fairly lengthy rides and said that everything seemed fine - normal. Definitely not a warped disc. The service manager was also a bit puzzled and wondered if it had anything to do with the bar risers affecting the front end in some way. He suggested riding the bike without the risers. Has anyone experienced something similar. Maybe its just me because i haven't ridden a BMW for years and am adjusting to the telelever front end. Does the steering dampener have anything to do with this feeling as well. The bike has 2 years remaining on the warranty and the dealership has made a note regarding a possible issue and will look into the matter further if a more significant or specific problem arises.

Have them put a runout dial indicator on both rotors and both edges of the rim while its on the bike, then remove the wheel/tire and rebalance - the front balance tolerance is very tight.

Check for a scalloped/unevenly worn front tire. Finally, check all fasteners.

I have a 2010 R1200R and never feel anything from the front wheel/tire assembly.
