Anyone out there come from an R1150R?

Post by Grey Thumper »

(I'm pretty sure this question must've been asked before, but I can't search for "R1150R" on this forum.)

Anyway, I sat on one and was impressed at how much . . . "handier" it felt than my 1150, so now I'm currently tempted. How different are they? (I guess it's hard to judge whether that difference is worth giving up a bike that works perfectly fine and, more importantly, is paid for, but it wouldn't hurt to ask and learn).

They can't hit you if you're not there.

It's the next generation, motor, gearbox, and drive train. All are smoother, slicker, and less back lash.
If you take one for a ride the bike will perform at least 40% better in every area.
Can you justify the expence, well that's up to you!

good luck!!!

If you're tight on cash, keep the R1150R. For me, the move up was inevitable in a way, I was reluctant to spend the cash but when one came up locally at a good price, I said to myself, i'd be stupid if I didn't buy it. The test ride was somewhat a bit ho hum, actually, and I was starting to talk myself out of just riding what I got.. until the wheel came up (inadvertent wheelie) while gunning it out of a tight 180 degree corner. The brakes squeal a little bit on a hard brake, which is a little annoying. The transmission is light years smoother than the airheads and oilheads I've ridden. The engine pings a bit more than I think it should in the Texas heat which is also annoying. I've made an appointment at the dealer to see what can be done about that issue. In the past couple weeks since purchasing it, I installed a footpeg lowering kit to get the ergonomics a bit more like the R1150R and that was a nice improvement.
