so, its about to start. thanks to all the advice and help from this site, im almost ready to start my cross country trip. i have been thinking about this trip for 12 years and actively planning it for almost a year. my rockster is spruced up, and almost ready to go (waiting on the side bags to arrive so i can fit them and make brackets). i have a friend with a ducati mulitstrada that likes my plan so much, he quit his job and is coming along! still waiting on my car to sell and will hopefully be leaving in three or so weeks. the plan is to go go go until the money runs out, hopefully 5 or so months. the goal is to see the country. im a big time hiker (thru hiked the appalachian trail last year) and want to hit as many national parks and beautiful forests as possible. have friends to visit (one in anchorage... NEW ENGLAND TO ALASKA!!!) and the small town world to get to know. ive always been a wanderer and traveler and have dreamt of this trip for years. now its finally about to happen.
i wanted to say thanks to everyone here who helped me with my problems and to get on the road. would have had an awful hard time without you guys. my friend and i will be posting a spotty and probably unreliable account of the trip on ADVrider.com where we have also gotten alot of help. i welcome everyone to please follow along. i would love advice on places to see, trails to hike. towns to visit, any sort of input at all. and if we happen to be in your neck of the woods, a backyard to pitch our tents in for a night or two would be greatly greatly appreciated.
we are living on the cheap (both of us young and just having dumped a bunch of cash into the bikes and gear for the trip) so it will be fun as hell to see where it goes. we have no plan except to wander and see friends and sights. no end goal, no destination, no limitations (except the $). my user name on ADVrider.com is the same as here, Gubachoo and will be making a similar post there soon. will post as many pictures as possible (getting a new canon dslr for the trip, photography is a passion of mine) on the site with all of them hopefully on photobucket or some similar site for everyone to enjoy.
so thanks again, and i hope to maybe meet some of you along the way and really look forward to suggestions in any form, happy riding everyone, see you out there.

PM me when (if) you come through the Fingerlakes area of NY.
Can at least hook you up with a beer or iced tea if we're around.

Re: The Big Adventure
thanks for the invites guys, i have good news and bad news to update. my friend who was supposed to be coming with me on the trip, hit a deer while we were riding back from a hike right next to me! smashed up his multistrada pretty good when he dumped it and broke his ankle! so unfortunately, he wont be coming along right away. he has to wait for his ankle to heal and fix up his bike, then will catch up to me somewhere along the way. in the good news department, i got my saddlebags in and have begun making the brackets for them. hope to leave in 2-3 weeks!
