small soft tail bag for an R1200R

Post by xcell1600 »

I have a 2009 R1200R with BMW hard side luggage. I would like a small soft tail bag for around town for small items like tire repair kit, anonymous book etc. My bike is black and want one that looks good on the bike. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Here is what I use for short trips:

http://www.amazon.com/Motogear-73727-Mo ... 390&sr=1-6

Great price.

I also use this one for longer trips:

http://www.twistedthrottle.com/trade/pr ... w/921/340/

The Bags Connections seat bag is a lot more expensive, but holds a lot more. It is also waterproof.

I own and use everyday the 2 first and have no complain...affordable, roomy, heavy duty enough....but for sure I think Kriega might be more refine in term of general design.

Maybe not a soft bag, but a nice addition for small stuff non the less.http://axioluggage.com/tailbag_silver.html And, it looks good on the tail of the R, besides adding a little security for SWMBO.

Search Kriega on this forum and you'll find my picture of it on a R1200R.

Deja vu in colour:

Here's the R1200R with the Kriega US20 on the pillion:

To mount, slide the straps under the seat:

And a close up. Stock seat:

Converts to a courier bag:

I have the BMW rack, but i've also mounted it on the back seat. Fit's okay.

You can permanently attach the straps, loop them under the seat, or i usually just tie them until i've decided where the permanent home will be.

Just an Idea but it might be what your looking for: I have a Super Mini Cortech tank bag that I use on a small enduro type bike and figured it might foot the bill on the back of the R1200R.

This is a magnetic mount (just to see what it would look like)but they do make a strap mounted one. Unfortunately the straps mount front to back but I'm sure it wouldn't take too much effort or imagination to move them so they mounted around the rear section of the seat. It's small, glove box size, but will carry tire kit, camera, glasses and a few small things, also has a handgrip so you can take it with you when your off the bike.

Here's a link, Don't know if this is the best price I just wanted a picture:http://www.solomotoparts.com/product.ph ... gn=Froogle

BTW: The bike the bag belongs on;

Here's a pic of my Z Technik Pod rear bag. I like it alot. Easy to get my leg over, kinda fits the look of the bike and is reasonably priced right now for around $ 100. Zip it open and there are 3 zippered compartments attached to a removable base, so you can take them out and just pile stuff if you'd prefer. Do yourself a favor and use the arrea under the seat for your tire repair kit....plentsy of roon in there for a small copmpressor and pluggin tools.

I use the Tourmaster bag which can also be purchased with saddlebags and are zippered together as one unit. Very nice and handy. Here's the site:

What he said...
I actually bought the RR to slow myself down.
I didn't really work very well. 8-[
The Superduke is the most fun bike I have ever owned, in almost 40 years of riding (& racing).
The RR is deceptively fast and handles excellently, but the SD is even more so.
But I love them both. One of the main differences between them is... the SD makes me feel like riding like a hooligan ALL THE TIME. I can ride the RR pretty much the same way, if I want, but it does not make me feel that way all the time. I can enjoy a casual cruise more on the BMW.

If any one has the official BMW tail bag from the old R850R or R1150R I suggest that you try it on the R1200R as it fits on the official rack perfectly.

Look through your old kit you may well have one, it is well made, waterproof and can be used as a separate carrying bag.

BMW must have slipped up when they designed the 1200R as they usually make sure that non of the gear for a new bike will fit the one that it supersedes!

I have a Tourtech expandable tail bag, that is designed to fit our luggage racks. It's very water resistant, but not quite waterproof...
I have removed my luggage rack and have no need of it. I have only used it on one trip. I would gladly sell it at 1/2 of new retail.

Here's an Ogio I bought at Cycle Gear yesterday - $59.99. Not too big, not too small. It unclips at each corner and has a rain cover and carrying handle. Not sure what an Ogio is.

Just bought the BMW Motorrad "Small sports Bag" .

Fits on the rack well, semi-rigid so provides back rest for pillion. Built -in waterproof inner liner. Clips on/off in seconds. Capacity for 1 helmet. Really light. Comes with carrying strap.

Looks great too - fits the lines of the bike.
