Odyssey PC625

Evening All:

Been checking around-since the Sudden Death of the original Exide(replaced under 2 year battery warranty by dealer) in my R12R. Has anyone tried the Odyssey 625?? On Advrider someone put one in a 1200GS.

Really good question.

The PC625 is 3/4 inch taller than the PC535. I have a PC535 in my R1200R so, to take a first pass look at the feasibility of using a PC625, I removed the seat and put a 3/4 inch thick paperback book on top of the battery cables (simulating the added height). The cables lay flat against the top of the battery with no vertical play. With the paperback in place, the seat couldn't even come close to engaging the front hooks.

This suggests that if you reroute the cables, you might get away with it. The cables add about 3/4 inch to the filled volume above the battery. If they were long enough, or extended, you might be able to route them around the sides of the battery (if proper precautions are taken not to short the positive contact to the bike frame.

People have put the PC625 in R1200GS's but it sounds like they have to modify their seat latches to get the seat back on. The only mods the R1200GS's (or the R1200R for that matter) needed to mount the PC535 were nipping out two tiny bits of plastic at the front of the battery box and squashing some bends in the battery strap.

Thanks for checking for me!

I read your very well done review of the 535 going into your R12R-and it seems there is more involved then just nipping the airbox-I was hoping not to need to modify the battery.
