checking the fuel mixtures

Hi Guys
After fitting my Remus Y pipe and Genesis oval alloy can, the quiet one, the tick over increased to about 1400 revs.
Then a plug coil failed on me so I replaced both of them.
So now when I know everything is OK and I finally got round to balancing the carbs and setting the tick over. She now runs sweetly and the tick over is about 1100 rpm.

My only other issue is do I need to check the mixtures and if so is there a cheap way of doing it apart from plug chops?
I am planning a touring trip soon and really don’t want to have to worry and weak mixtures and holing a piston, again.

She is an 04 1150R twin spark with a Remus Y pipe and a quiet Genesis oval alloy can. K&N Air filter installed. The O2 sensor installed. 25K miles

Any advice is gratefully received.

You have nothing to worry about, there is enough learning in the Motronics to accomodate the intake and exhaust mods. Did you reset the Motronics?? Do you have the yellow plug in.....first starting from the left?

A good TB balance and idle adjust will make the engine purrrrr....

Boxermania - no yellow plug inserted, but I did reset Motoronices, fuse 5 out for 30 seconds, ignition on then twist the grip at least 3 times all the way and release.

You are correct as she sure now does that purrrrrr-ing bit very sweetly and she is smoother all through the rev range.

Lovely bit of kit, cheap as chips, no battery required, easy to use. I got the 2 pistons very nearly horizontal, even easier than doing a 4 cylinder jobbie.
The only issue was where to put it, well seat off and lean it againt the tank. masking tape then holds it upright. Easy piesy.

You guys keep saying do a carb synch, well you are correct. All done in less than 30 mins, including the warmup.

Your motronics supervises and adjusts the fuel mix automatically. The only influence you have is the use of a colored plux as boxermania suggests. Certain plugs stand for slightly richer air/fuel mix but I cannot tell you which ones to use for the R1150. For example my R1100R came with the yellow plug and after getting my engine tuned I changed to a rose plug which resulted in a slightly richer mix ...

For example in the US the R1150R always came with the yellow plug whereas the R1150RS came with the rose plug.

Maybe some of the R1159 experts around could shed some light on this? And maybe you could just give it a try if you can get hold of some 2nd hand colored plugs (beware when buying these plugs at a dealer I guess you will have to shell out around USD 80 or more per plug although it is no more than a plastic housing with a wired bridge between 2 connectors).

You are absolutely correct....as a matter of fact, there are about 5 or so fuel maps stored in the Motronics.

They have the standard map, no plug (which BTW is slightly richer than the yellow plug one) and a few others that activate via the colored plug ins.

Several years back I listed the different plug colors.....and you are right again, the plugs are no more that an enclosure with a hard short between two or three connectors. If you are careful the top can be pried off to see what has been jumpered.
