I ordered these about 2 weeks ago from the machineartmoto guys directly. They're imported from England, I believe, and currently on backorder. When I receive mine I can post pics and impressions.

Okay, I got these protectors the other day. They arrived exactly around the date indicated to me through email. That speaks for the seller, http://www.machineartmoto.com/shopsite_sc/index.html.
Installation took 10 minutes, and they fit well. The protectors have little rubber disks on the inside on which they rest in several points against the valve covers. The protectors look sleek and not bulky. In fact, I find them pretty stylish. They set me back $199 including shipping. I find that a bit high for two pieces of plastic, but I wasn't convinced of the OEM BMW ones, and didn't like the truck look of the Motech bars.
I think I could trust these protectors in case of a parking lot tip over. I'm not sure if I could trust any protector in case of a sliding crash with sparks and the whole enchilada. My main incentive is to have the valve covers protected against scrapes from the garage door. My parking space between car and wall is pretty tight.

They should work for your purposes. I have the cheesie oe BMW type and when I dropped my bike on the street at 0 mph (don't ask) I was left with an ummarked cylinder head. I, too don't like the "truck" look (good description, that) of the Motechs but will probably end up with a pair, due to what I have read on this forum.

I also have just gotten a set of these....I think they look fine and cover the damage left when the bike fell over after kissing a pot hole....the OE BMW version broke easily and left a pretty scratched head and spark cover....granted it could have been worse with out them.

FYI I filed a claim with the city (KIngston, NY) for the damage to the bike. I took pictures and went to Max for an estimate of damage. parts and labor came to about 1000 including a damaged bag cover (painted to match the bike).

the pot hole has been there for a long time....at least 2 years. I have driven over it may times without mishap...it ran about 3 feet along the entrance to a driveway downtown...but this time as I turned in it got the best of me. bike damage and bruised ribs....not bad but very annoying.

I got a very interesting answer yesterday from the city's insurance company...since the city had no prior notice of the pothole, the city cannot be held liable. interesting to me that since they are responsible for the condition of the roads to begin with that they take this way out. so the moral is that if you know of road deterioration, photograph it and send it to the city. then it can damage you and they are liable. ;>) incidently, they repaired the pot hole 2 days after I filed the claim.
