Please tell me more about the suspension adjustments

Looking in the operators manual, it simply says to turn the adjusting screw towards the firm or soft
side, but there's no "stop" or anything so the screw could just continue to rotate - and the book doesn't
say you can - or cannot - turn it past the mark or turn it like a full revolution or whatever

the reason I ask is that just moving it that 1/4 turn or so from hard to soft doesn't seem to make
any noticeable difference, but I don't want to turn it too far so something goes haywire either

You can't turn it too far. There's a limit to how far you can turn the rebound adjuster in either direction. Tweak away.

Read the manual and remember that one turns opposite the other for the same result.

may not be quite right about directions for turning to adjust. my 04 manual says and shows clockwise for both shocks to stiffen; counterclockwise to soften. the confusion may be that the pix of the adjustment indents on the front shock are above the adjuster screw and below on the rear, which appear to change the 'h' and 's' positions. hope that helps maxc.

Well surely does!

My adjusters have I think it's H and S for hard and soft or something like that,
so at least it shows which way to turn them.

I did look in my manual and it showed me that much but nothing about how
far I could turn them, like more than just from H to S or whatever.

Thanks much!! I had to pick Missouri to move to where they've got the
roughest roads in the whole country - year after year - per AAA.

macx (sorry i got your name wrong) - 04 manual says 'turn adjuster clockwise all the way for full stiffness. then, back out to soften ride.' i believe they recommend 2 turns back to begin with. don't worry. the adjuster will stop at full clockwise turn. you'll feel it. hope that sheds some light.

I tried to figure this one out too. I ended up counting the total # of turns and it seems to me(it was several months ago-a long time to remember for and old fart!) that it was 40. Anyway, I did it half way tight and left it there for a 5k trip to Mexico. I weigh 215# plus lots of stuff for a long trip-no camp gear- and it seemed OK to me. I think you would have to be a racer to notice a few turns difference. Tires probably make a far greater difference than tweaking the knob.

This book is an amazing tool in easily educating yourself on how to properly tune a suspension. It is written for the average Joe rider and shows you just how a simple, well adjusted suspension will be the single most inexpensive upgrade you can do to your bike.

I would highly recommend it.
