Hello there, sorry if it seems simple, but, what is this thing in the green square? what is it for? how does it work? The bike is a 2004 R1150R.

Charcoal emissions canister-----something alot of folks remove. Makes a good place to put stickers.

Only the Germans would place such an aesthetically UNpleasing piece of equipment right out in the open for everyone to see, simply because it's function is one of passive necessity.

I'm with Rob on this being a good thing...NOT its placement, but its function. I really like that I can park the bike in the garage without the gasoline odors. I personally followed his example and placed mine under the fuel tank...out of sight.

I like the idea of painting it blue and putting a nitrous oxide sticker on it.

I didn't even think about painting it blue and slapping a NOS sticker on it. Probably should have thought of that before I removed it. Oh well, its gone now and the bike looks fine.
