Anyone used Topo graphs with the Zumo?

Post by nixdsg »

Hi all,

I recently purchased a Zumo 550 and was wanting to use the "On the trail" maps to do some off the beaten path riding and hiking. Garin's web site doesn't offer Topo maps for the Zumo but in their "Freq asked questions" area they state that Topo graphs will work with "limited" functionality. Anyone know how limited? Should I get the CD or SD card?

Thanks.

Hey!

I haven't tried it on the Zumo, but i have i tried it on several other Garmins. Lately on Garmin Mobile XT on my cell (HTC Touch HD). It works the same way. You install the CD and you get MapSource. You pick the local maps you want, and it transfers it to the GPS. You can also have it transfer directly to the SD card (or whatever is in the Zumo). There is only one slight problem. It overwrites the Map file that is stored on the card already! You cannot (as far as i have seen) make the GPS have a road map and topo maps at the time. Just backup the road map and do it.

What what will you use it for? Are you going cross country with your bike ;p Places not found on the road map? ;p
