Accessory outlet mystery

Post by Dauntless »

I decided to try plugging my BMW Canbus specific battery charger into the socket on the bike to see if it would work without first turning the ignition on. The charger started working normally. I pulled the charger out of the socket and determined with a volt meter that it was energized. Prior to inserting the charger, the socket was cold. My bike is a 2009. Is this a new feature or is the charger sophisticated enough to open the circuit on the socket and enable charging?

I didn't figure it would be that easy to use the can bus charger. From what I heard you had to go through a sequence of steps to get the thing working.
Good for you. Maybe it's some sort of improvement for 2009.

Hi,

I've had a 2009 R1200R for about a week now. I tried plugging in the CAN bus savvy charger without turning the bike on first, and it seems to work fine.

I'm wondering if this is a software update?

Can anyone verify?
