Post by ErikM »

Does anyone know the correct amount of oil needed with a new filter to do an oil change on an R12R? Thanks!

Owners manual says 1.1 gal (4 liters) with filter.

I did my first oil change last night, I was 3.9 litres with the filter and that was a bit too much. I would start with 3.8 litres and see where you wind up. I thought I had all of the oil drained, but obviously not.

Erik,

Since we're working with quarts (.97something of a litre).. buy 5 quarts. With the filter - put 4 in (prefill filter), start engine, let it circulate, it will then take about 150-250 cc's from the last quart to bring it to the top of the window. (And I know I mixed quarts and CC's.. it's partial metric conversion syndrome.. I suffer from it..)

Thanks D.. I bought a 4 liter jug of Motorex 15-50 non synth, so I should be good to go.. now if you would have a tech daze at your place I could check my rocker arms thingies to see if they ( our local south Jersey dealer) did the 600 mile service right :) I find my bike a bit rough at higer rpms.

Oil change COST???

Post by 8b »

What is the range it would/should cost to have the oil (and filter?) changed.
Looking for something like:
"If I do it myself, the oil and filter would cost x at the BMW dealer",
and if I have the dealer do it, it would y (in a less expensive city/dealer), it would cost z at an expensive dealer
, and it would cost z times 2 @ BMW of Manhattan in NYC. Seriously, what has this been running costwise at dealers around the country, what can I expect to pay?
